From July 28 to August 2, 2018, the 30th International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE) was held in Vancouver, Canada. ICAE was organized by the International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE) which is a worldwide association of agricultural economists and others concerned with agricultural economic problems, including problems related to the use of renewable resources and the environment. The 30th ICAE, titled “New Landscapes and New Mandates for Agriculture” features outstanding plenary speakers, invited panels, and a terrific mix of oral and visual presentations, attracting more than thousands of participants from all over the world.

Seven researchers from Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development (IAED) of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), namely Researcher Zhao Zhijun, Associate Researcher Liu Hui, Qian Jiarong, Zhang Yumei, Xiang Cheng, Liu Wenyong and PhD candidate Wang Jing, were invited to the conference to give presentations.

At the same time, several papers written by different researchers were presented in different parallel sessions in the conference, which are: the paper named “Estimating the contribution of seed cultivars to crop yield increases: method and application” by Researcher Zhao Zhijun and Associate Researcher Qian Jiarong; “Analysis on supply factors of the planting structure change of main grain crops against the background of pricing mechanism reforms in China” by Associate Researcher Liu Hui; “Regional and sectoral impacts of water redline policy in China: results from an integrated regional CGE water model” and “Modeling the impacts of reforming grain minimum purchase price policy in China” by Associate Researcher Zhang Yumei; “The role of exotic wheat germplasms in wheat breeding and their impact on wheat yield and production in China” by Associate Researcher Xiang Cheng; “Why does the short-term contract dominant in China’s rural land transfer market” by Associate Researcher Liu Wenyong; and the paper “Does formal credit constraint restrain agricultural production” by PhD candidate Wang Jing.

Participants paid an off-site visit to different agricultural sites, including fishery market and small fruit farm in the Vancouver or lower BC mainland area. The participation of ICAE expanded CAAS’ academic influence in the field of agricultural economics, and promoted communication and cooperation with global agricultural economic researchers.
