Source: Department of International Cooperation

On January 13, 2015, CAAS President LI Jiayang met with Makhtar Diop, World Bank Vice President for Africa. Views were exchanged on further strengthening the collaboration to boost agricultural development in African countries.

“CAAS always appreciates the collaboration with the World Bank. Under the framework of the World Bank-China cooperation on agricultural technology transfer, plenty of successful application and demonstration trainings have been implemented in African countries, such as the Technology Transfer and Studying Tour for nearly 50 representatives from different African countries organized by CAAS in Beijing last year. ” LI said.

LI showed the confidence in pushing forward the agricultural development of Africa and added, “With the combination of Chinese traditional farming and modern agricultural technologies, CAAS has developed many advanced technologies and bred new crop varieties which are very adaptable to Africa. I believe that with the support of the World Bank and related government ministries, CAAS will make relentless efforts with its expertise to boost the agricultural development in Africa.”

Diop highly recognized the achievements that China has been providing foreign assistance to African countries. He said that CAAS made great contribution in agricultural development for Africa. “It is very important to build an effective cooperation model for the World Bank, CAAS and African countries.”

Both sides agreed to develop an all-round cooperation, mainly in crop improvement, livestock breeding and diseases control, and capacity building as well. It is hoped that through the cooperation from farm to fork, CAAS and the World Bank will deliberate joint working mechanism to boost the agricultural development in Africa.
