SSC Training Boosting Multilateral Exchange

The “Training Course on Rural Energy under the South-South Cooperation (SSC)” was held at Biogas Institute of Ministry of Agriculture of China (BIOMA) in Chengdu from October 9-25, 2014. 19 participants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana and Costa Rica took part in this training.
It was sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture of China (MOA) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), organized by Center of International Cooperation Service of Ministry of Agriculture of China (CICOS), and co-organized by BIOMA.
Mr. Luo Ming, Division Chief at the Department of International Cooperation of MOA introduced the background and development of the cooperation between China and FAO and hoped that under the framework of SSC which is strongly supported by MOA of China, this training would promote exchanges and cooperation on rural energy among the participating countries.
Mr. Li Qian, Director General of BIOMA extended warm welcome to all the participants, briefly introduced BIOMA, and expressed wishes on sharing knowledge and making common progress with the participants through this training. The opening ceremony was chaired by Mr. Ji Wenyuan, Deputy Director General of CICOS.
The training covered the contents such as the situation and development of China’s biogas technology, the design and construction of rural household biogas digesters, the fermentation process of large and medium scale biogas plants and the energy-smart food plan of the UN and fisheries, with various forms including lectures, hands-on practice and field visits.
BIOMA was designated by FAO as “FAO Reference Center for Biogas Research and Training” in September, 2014. This training was the first task after the designation.
