CAAS to Deepen Cooperation with European Partners
In Czech, the delegation visited the Czech Crop Research Institute (CRI), the largest agricultural research institute in Czech, and had a fruitful meeting with its DG, Dr. Pavel Cermák and DDG Dr. Jiban Kuma. Noting that China and Czech enjoy strong complementarily advantages and great potential for agricultural scientific cooperation, Tang called upon the two sides to deepen their cooperation on agricultural science and technology. Both sides agreed to establish the “CAAS-CRZ Joint Center for Agricultural Research” and seek to include its implementation under the Sino-Czech S&T Cooperation framework supported by Ministries of Science and Technology of both countries. The prioritized areas for future cooperation were identified. The two sides also reached consensus to encourage the joint application of the Horizon 2020 projects and bilateral cooperation projects so as to boosting the pragmatic cooperation.


The 2nd China-EU Innovation Cooperation Dialogue (ICD) was co-chaired by MOST Minister Wan Gang and EU Research, Science and Innovation Commissioner Carlos Moedas in Brussels of Belgium. Tang was invited to deliver a keynote speech on the status quo and future steps of China-EU cooperation in agricultural research and innovation. Tang also shared with participants the progress and achievements made by the Task Force on EU cooperation on Food, Agriculture and Biotechnology ( co-chaired by CAAS and European Commission). Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker met and took photo with the ICD participants during the event.
During the delegation’s visit to Ghent University of Belgium, Tang and Mr. Guido Van Huylenbroeck, Director of the Bioscience Engineering College unveiled the CAAS- Ghent Joint Lab on Global Change and Food Security. The agreement of this joint lab was signed on March 31, 2014, witnessed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Prime Minister of Belgium, Mr. Elio Di Rupo. Tang and Prof. Wim Cornelis co-chaired the First Joint Lab Academic Committee Meeting and the Workshop on Global Change and Food Security.
From June 25 to July 2, 2015, CAAS delegation led by Vice President Tang Huajun paid an official visit to Belgium and Czech. At the invitation of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China(MOST), the delegation also attended the 2nd China-EU Innovation Cooperation Dialogue (ICD) during their stay in Belgium.
