Agroforestry & Sustainable Farming Joint Lab Inaugurated
On March 27th, Wu Kongming, Vice President of CAAS met Tony Simons, Director of World Agroforestry Center (WAC). In their meeting several issues were discussed including strengthen the cooperation in science and technology. There after they signed the cooperation agreement of “CAAS-WAC Agroforestry & Sustainable Farming Joint Lab”, and inaugurated the lab.
The lap will be based in the Institute of Animal Sciences of CAAS in Beijing, the lap designed to provide full capacity to the scientific research experiences and advantageous achievements of both sides. It will also promote cooperation in fields of resource evaluation and cyclic utilization of ligneous forage and oil crops, ecological diversity of environmental microorganisms and nutrient cycle, low carbon and emission reduction of the farming industry and sustainable development.
In his address, Wu Kongming said, great achievements in talent introduction, knowledge sharing, innovation promotion and application of scientific research results have been seen since the establishment of collaboration of agroforestry, ecosystem service and natural resources management. He proposed the two sides to conduct even more practical and effective cooperation through diversified ways, including building cooperative platform, enhancing talent exchanges and expanding research scope, to address the major challenges facing the agroforestry industry in China and Asia at large.
Agreeing with the proposal, Simons said that he would actively support the collaborative research projects conducted in China, and vow to tap cooperation potential between them.
