The Samling - Part of von Essen hotels
A few hundred feet above one of the most beautiful lake in Britain beckons a small gem of a hotel

Its called The Samling. Set in its own sixty seven acre estate, its like no other place youve ever stayed. This is a hotel in the country and, emphatically, not a country house hotel, so theres none of that snooty nostalgic stuff. Instead, youll discover deep comfort the fruits of a thoughtful kitchen and service so good youll hardly notice it. Breakfast at The Samling is generally agreed is preferable in bed and a many splendoured thing it is. There is no other hotel like it.

This hotel is the most beautiful and attentive place I have ever stayed in.

We knew it was quite 'posh' so felt a bit funny handing the keys to our car over to be parked (in amongst the Mercs and Ferraris!). But we were never once treated as though we didn't belong there. There were no pretences and people weren't over dressed for dinner. In fact I felt the most comortable I have ever felt in hotel.

The food is NOTHING short of exquisite. I was 7 months pregnant at the time, so couldn't sample the delicious wines, but my husband reliably informs me they lived up to their reputation.

Our room was lovely. It had a really comfortable bed and magnificent pillows. There was a TV, DVD, stereo sytem. The bathroom was huge with a massive bath, separate shower and toilet and lovely toiletries.

The hotel also has an outdoor hot tub set at the top of the hill overlooking the lake. Lovely on a starry evening!

The breakfast here deserves an entry of its own! You are left a tick sheet on an evening and actually encouraged to tick as much as you like! We ticked almost everything and this was brought to out room in the morning and laid out for us. We felt so greedy! But it was gorgeous.
